Building Information Modeling (BIM) is revolutionizing the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industries by providing a digital representation of a building's physical and functional characteristics.

TOP of the most usable vocabulary in BIM

  • BIM - Building information modeling (management)

It is a process of creating and coordinating 3d models, which contain needed information like volume, cost, name and other.
  • LOD - level of detail

It is how accurate your models will be shown and modelled. There are different types of LOD (LOD 100...500) and different organizations set their own standarts.
  • EIR - employer’s information requirements

These are requirements, that are set by the customer. They are often discussed with BIM Manager and they can differ depending on the project.
  • BEP - BIM execution plan

The plan which shows how 3d model will be modelled accoring to the schedule. And how often Data drops will happen during the project.
  • CDE - Common Data Environment

It is a central repository where construction project information is collected, managed, and disseminated.
  • IFC - Industry Foundation Classes

File format which allows to exchange information (models) from different applications. Since creating this format engineers can easily export their projects from .rvt format to .ifc and open their model wherever they want.
  • BIM Levels

The maturity of BIM in your organisation (country). Since BIM techlology was created, not all companies have switched to 3d modelling and BIM. So the level shows how close your company is to the highest and fastest level of information exchanging. There 3 levels in BIM maturity.
  • MEP - Mechanical electrical plumbing

All engineers aspects of any project. When we talk about MEP, we talk about HVAC, electicity and engineers, who manage with plumbing.
  • ISO - International Organization for Standardization

This organization sets standarts for a lot of things in the world. And BIM is also discussed in their documents. So, if you work in building sphere, you have to follow the rules of ISO 19650, for example.
  • Uniclass

Uniclass is a standard classification system used in the United Kingdom which allows grouping of objects into numerical headers. This facilitates a streamlined arrangement of information as per type or class and is used for categorization within BIM models.
